Speaking as an American, I couldn't agree more. As I was saying to my roommate last night -- that whole "right to bear arms" thing in our constitution was written when we were still toting around muskets for chrissakes -- nothing like now where we have the right to carry about small bombs!

And I actually heard someone use the VA Tech rampage as a reason to *lessen* gun control laws: "if the students were allowed to carry guns to class, they could have defended themselves." Are you *kidding* me?! The killer was a gun-carrying student?! How does lessening restrictions on gun control help this situation at all?!

But, yeah -- just so you know, not all of us Americans support that whole bearing arms thing.

Devon! Haven't been able to read your blog in ages cos it won't let me. :o(

Yeah, I don't mean to generalise about anyone. People still have guns in Britain, and of course, Britain is about as big as only one state in America. It just seems insane that so many people have guns in america, even though I assume many hope never to use them.

Wow, there is something very very wrong with thinking that shooting everyone is an answer to...lets see... shooting everyone! They've published the profiles of the VA tech victims on the BBC website. Made me very sad. :o)

According to the paper today, about 2/3 of American's support stricter gun control. Unfortunately getting it to happen is not a political reality, because those who love their guns really love them, and thus will vote accordingly, but those who are in favour of gun control won't. The impression I get is this is the reason that various issue, such as abortion and homosexual marriage have become key issues- because the religious right is more interested in them, than, say, helping their fellow man.
